Christmas 2010

Christmas Day started out with me and the kids eating our traditional Christmas breakfast: "German waffles". I don't know for sure if they are a German thing, but there is a story as to why we call them that. One year when I was in primary our ward at church had our Christmas party in the morning and we had a breakfast for our meal. There was a family in our ward that had moved to Utah from Germany and they were in charge of the meal. They made us these wonderful waffles covered in chocolate or vanilla pudding and lots of whipped cream. I LOVED it! After R and I started having kids and wanted to start some traditions I thought they would be a great thing to have for our breakfast on Christmas morning. So that is where that comes from...

After breakfast the kids and I watched some tv, waiting for the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade... Another tradition.

A little disclaimer, R had to work that on Christmas so that is why you are seeing that its just the kids and I doing these things.

After the parade was over we ate lunch and kids went down for nap, and Mommy went to work filling stockings and getting things ready for Christmas dinner.

We had a wonderful dinner of Ham, creamy mashed potatoes (with cream cheese, sour cream, and green onions in it YUM!), homemade cranberry sauce, fresh baked rolls, fruit salad, and broccoli and corn in a cheesy butter sauce... after eating all that we were too full to eat the Dutch apple and pumpkin pies.

We had lots of fun opening presents, or the kids did and parents had fun watching the excitement on their faces. Here are some pics of what was given this year.

We also received some really yummy chocolates and fudge from R's mom and dad.

I am so thankful for my Savior who's birthday we celebrate this time of year. I am thankful for all he did while he was on this earth to provide us with the ultimate example. And I am very Grateful for his atonement for our sins so that I may live with my Heavenly Father and Savior again someday.

our family newsletter 2010

Here is a copy of our 2010 family newsletter, we decided to send these out this year instead of Christmas cards. Enjoy!

We are excited this year to bring you the first ever Wilcox Family newsletter.

Time has flown by faster than we thought it ever would, yet much has happened this year. We have had times of sorrow and times of joy but above all we have had a year filled with love. Many blessing were made more apparent as we found ourselves opening our small home for family and yet still fit everyone who had come.

After being in the same ward for over 3 years (even after 3 moves) we were a bit surprised when our Stake Presidency changed the ward boundaries and placed us in a new ward! It has been a bittersweet experience; we miss seeing some of our friends on Sunday, but this has also opened the way for us to meet people and make new friends. With being put in a new ward, we were called to the primary to teach the 11 year old class. Surprisingly they all moved away (Not our fault…We swear!). So in lacking a class we were asked to substitute the 8 year olds until the New Year.

R finally started his own production company, partnering with a good friend he took a step into the venture of web film production and made Clockwork Ninja Films LLC a reality. He was very excited to receive a new calling as the 11 year old scout leader were he is now teaching those boys everything he knows…well, at least enough to not get themselves killed.

H began learning how to quilt this year from Grandma F. Although the quilt is not quite finished it is looking wonderful. As well she has found a love for running as this year she began running laps with a group of friends from church at a local park. She hopes to make it a life long habit. She was also called to be on the Relief Society Meeting Board.

A celebrated her 4^th Birthday this year. When asked about it, she goes on and on about her pink cupcakes with sprinkles and pink ice cream. She has found a great love for all things girl this year, Disney princesses, dress up, and dancing to name a few. She is in the Sunbeams class in primary. After a rough start she now loves going to primary to be with her friends and to sing songs.

G turned 2 this year. He loves to talk, if given the chance he will talk your ear off. Although you may not understand every thing he tells you, he is learning many new words and makes sure to get his point across. G is very much a boy. He loves cars, trains, Bob the Builder, air planes, and anything else that screams boy. He loves to get into mischief, although most times he is just having fun with the things he gets into trouble with. He is in the Nursery at church and loves to learn new songs and make friends.

Surprise! We are expecting a new little one in June. We are looking forward to welcoming this child into our family. We will find out towards the end of December if it’s a boy or a girl. Either way we just want a healthy happy baby.

A was getting upset with G while they were playing. Being the avid watcher of Toy Story that she is she yelled at G saying “G, you are toy! G, you are toy!” (May 2010)

While eating Breakfast, H asked A if she liked her Captain Crunch. She looked at mommy very seriously and said “No” then she got a dreamy look in her eye and said “I love Captain Crunch”. Moments after, H was telling G to eat his cereal. A looked at Mommy sternly saying “Mommy, not cereal, it’s Captain Crunch.” (July 2010)

It’s been a bit of a crazy year at times, but full of wonderful moments. We are so thankful that we have one another and all of you!

Thanksgiving FHE

I wanted to make FHE more creative and entertaining to the kids last night. You see I'm sure that this doesn't happen in any of your houses, but our kids tend to play, dance, jump on the couch, run screaming down the hall, etc. during the lesson part of FHE almost every week. They love the songs, prayers, and treat, but we are having a hard time getting them to sit down and pay attention to the lesson. Yeah I'm sure that can't happen in anyone else house. :)

Well to make it more entertaining, and to bring in the theme of being thankful (since it's Thanksgiving this week) I found a great idea for making a craft that we could all work on together. So after searching for paper in the right colors around the house (since I forgot to buy paper at the store), cutting, and drawing (mostly thanks to my wonderful Husband!) I was ready for our lesson.

And here is how it turned out, the kids were right by my side the whole time as I glued the feathers on, or by daddy's side as he wrote the things we were grateful for on the feathers. They have been so excited all morning anytime that they look at the pantry door and see the Birdie (not a turkey according to A). We have friends that come over and do FHE with us, so with the 4 adults combined and our two kids we were able to come up with quite a few, and some interesting things that we were thankful for.

Halloween!

I know I am really late at putting this picture up.... but I wanted everyone to see just how AWESOME our Halloween costumes were!


R's mom and Grandma worked so hard on these costumes. We are very grateful for all their hard work and willingness to help us out. If it were left up to me, we would have just gone to goodwill or something and tried to make the costumes out of clothes we found there. I am positive that they would have been no where this nice. I am excited that these will last a few years too, so now we just have to figure out which character to make the baby be when he or she gets here.

So R was the Mad Hatter, A was Alice, G (turned away) was an adorable white rabbit, and I of course was the Red queen.




R even carved our pumpkin to go with our costumes! I think it turned out wonderful!

our big news!

To start off, I guess I have some catching up to do. Its been a while since I last blogged, and we have had quite a bit of stuff going on.

Our big news is that we are.....




after much waiting and hoping we were excited to find out that we were finally pregnant.

We are so excited to be expecting another little one. We are due June 8th of 2011.


It was a great time for us to found out. We had been suspecting for about a week, but were not quite sure and wanted to take a test to find out.

It just so happened that the day we bought the test and found out for sure was the same day that I started getting all the wonderful feelings of morning sickness, so I was pretty sure that we were pregnant. The other thing about the day that we found out was that it was the day of Grandpa F's viewing. We were able to celebrate a new life along with morning the death of a loved one.

Because of Grandpa F's funeral we had a lot of family coming to stay at our house, so there was no way that we could stick to our rule of not telling anyone for a while. My morning sickness is very obvious, especially this time around. Serious exhaustion and tummy trouble ALL day long, every day. Thankfully it didn't start getting to the worst part until the week after everyone had left.

So now we get to start preparing for life with 3 kids... its gonna be interesting but very much worth it!

I have decided that A is 100% my daughter, not that I had any doubts, but you'll see why in a second...

While trying to get A to go down for nap yesterday I decided to chase her down the hall to her room, in hopes that she might go faster....

BAD IDEA!!!

Yup, that is a black eye, thankfully not the whole eye, but enough to look horrible (at least to me since I was the cause of it).

We play the chasing game all the time, but somehow this time she managed to hit what I am guessing is the door knob to her bedroom door, and wham-o she was on the floor crying like a mad woman.

Now this wouldn't be so bad except that we have a funeral to go to this week (see previous post) and a whole bunch of family coming into town. Now they are gonna think I beat her or something...

Or at least that is my fear.

Then to top it all off, while playing during nap time today she fell and has a nice bruise on her rump....

And while playing with G after nap time, she pierced her lip with a tooth, so now she has a swollen lip...

Why does this make her my daughter you ask? Well you see there is a gene that runs in my family, I got it from my mom, I am sure she got it from hers, and so on. We have the klutz gene, and with me, and now apparently A as well, it just so happens to kick in at the worst times possible....

Like 2 days before moving I broke my ankle.... Broke my hand just after moving and days before starting a new school.... breaking my toe before a big swimming trip.... the list goes on and on, with more than just breaking things, I just cant rack my brain at the moment to remember all those moments I have hidden away into the deepest darkest recesses of my brain.

I hope they find a cure to this gene before my grand kids get it. I'm telling you, its no fun at all.

Sad year for us :(

I have to start out by saying that this has been a pretty good year for the most part. I am thankful for all the blessings that Heavenly Father has given us.

This year has been sad though too. We have in just a matter of a couple of months lost 2 very important people in our lives. One of them we have been expecting, the other was rather sudden.


A few months ago R's Grandma H past away after a bad fall. Although I didn't have many chances to get to know her, I knew she loved me and our family. She spoke with a quiet gentle voice and she gave great hugs. I remember her being at our wedding, and being able to see her being part of our family not just for here on this earth, but part of it forever. I am grateful for her quiet example and her sweet loving spirit.




R's Grandpa F past away early this morning. He had been fighting Cancer and brain tumors for over a year. The Dr. said that he would only be with us for a couple more months, and yet he survived much longer than expected. Everyday he has been with us has been a miracle. I had more chances to get to know him than Grandma H, but I am sad to say that I didn't take them as often as I could have. I loved hearing stories about his life. This man has lived a very full life, doing almost anything that you could think a little boy would like to do. He was a cowboy, a security guard, he flew airplanes, a volunteer firefighter, he worked for SRP electrical as a line man, and most recently as a fire investigator, along with many other things. He was always willing to sit down and talk about his wonderful adventures, and things he had done in his life. I am so grateful for the chance that I had to get to know this wonderful man! R's mom has been working on putting together a book of Grandma and Grandpa's life story. I am so thankful that she was willing to take the time to do this. I can't wait to read it and get to know him better.

I have been so grateful for the opportunity I have had to have a grandpa near by. My Grandpa's had all past away before the time that I could really remember them (besides one whom I have very few memories of). I have been grateful for the opportunity to have another Grandma to love and to be loved by. With the passing of these wonderful people, I have realized just how grateful I am for the Grandmas that I had growing up, and I am thankful that they are still around. I hate to imagine what life would be like without them. I am thankful that we still have Grandma F and also Grandpa H. I hope they are with us for many years to come.

I am thankful for a loving Savior that made it possible to be with these people again someday. I am thankful for the knowledge that we have that their spirits live on, even if they have left their bodies behind. I am grateful for answers to prayers, that let me know that they are safe and happy.
